Brow Lift Surgery by Dr Mark Doyle

A brow lift can lift low eyebrows, deep frown lines and asymmetry between the brows.

Eyebrow lift surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure that raises the position of the brows. Also known as a forehead lift or endoscopic brow lift, it can firm the appearance of the upper face and forehead. It does this by raising the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow.

A brow lift is an outpatient procedure. Swelling and bruising are common after surgery and it can take 6 weeks for a full recovery.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a surgical procedure that lifts the appearance of the forehead, eyebrows and upper eyelids. It can also lift loose skin on the brows, deep creases between the eyes, and hooding of the upper eyelids.

A brow lift removes excess skin, tightens forehead muscles, and repairs underlying tissues. A brow lift can lift the eyebrows to give you a firmer forehead. It can also:

  • Improve your vision if drooping eyelids are interfering with your field of vision
  • Smooth forehead lines
  • Lift the brows to a high location on the forehead

Dr Doyle uses an endoscope to perform all eyebrow lifting surgery.

Brow Lift Results

Dr Doyle’s eyebrow lift procedures use an endoscope, with this technique brow lift surgery scars are generally within the hair and can generally be hidden with the hair, to allow for inconspicuous scarring.

Forehead surgery can firm the forehead lines, smooth skin creases, and raise the brows higher. Subtle results are important to Dr Doyle and he believes that the brow shouldn’t appear ‘pulled’ back and it should move normally.

Specialist Plastic Surgeon Dr Mark Doyle offers brow lift surgery to patients from Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast, QLD.

Different Types of Brow Lift

There are a few different types of brow lifts, Dr Doyle prefers to use the endoscopic technique. This is because the other procedures (the coronal brow lift and hairline brow lift) leave larger scars. Instead of lifting only the skin, Dr Doyle lifts the brow area from the inside.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

This is a minimally invasive technique that uses an endoscope, when compared to other brow lift techniques. The endoscope is a thin, tube-like instrument equipped with a tiny camera. This allows Dr Doyle to see inside the forehead and perform any necessary surgery without having to make large incisions.

Coronal Brow Lift

The coronal or traditional brow lift involves making a cut from ear to ear across the top of the head and back in the hairline. The skin on the forehead is pulled back and trimmed, muscles are tightened and rearranged, and fine lines are smoothed out.

Dr Doyle does not offer this brow lift technique as he prefers to use a the modern endoscope technique.

Brow Lift Procedure

Eyebrows lift surgery happens under general anesthesia at an accredited hospital and usually takes one to two hours.

During this procedure, Dr Doyle generally makes small incisions behind your hairline and inserts the endoscope. He then lifts the underlying muscles and tissues, before anchoring them in place with sutures or small screws.

This process is repeated five times, to lift the eyebrows from five different angles.

Recovery

Most people take one week off from work to recover. During this time, it’s important to sleep with your head elevated. Bruising and swelling are common immediately after surgery and will subside over time.

Strenuous exercise is restricted for 6 weeks after brow surgery. This is because it may cause increased swelling, bleeding, or disrupt the healing process. Restricted activities include swimming, gym workouts and running.

Complete recovery from browlift takes approximately 6 weeks.

Best Candidate

To be a suitable candidate for a brow lift surgery, you must have realistic expectations about what the surgery can do. A brow lift can help firm the forehead. But, it won’t make you look like a completely different person.

The best candidates are also in good physical and mental health and do not smoke. Furthermore, the ideal candidate for a brow lift is someone who has:

  • Loose eyebrows that hang over the eyelids
  • Deep creases or furrows between the eyes
  • Lines across the forehead
  • Hooding of the upper eyelids
  • Asymmetry between the brows

A brow lift lifts the position of one or both eyebrows. It can smooth creases and furrows on the forehead/frown and can correct droopy brows and eyelid skin. It’s a cosmetic procedure to combat common signs of ageing.

Eye brow surgery is effective at treating one or both eyebrows. It can lift the brow/s to be more symmetrical on the forehead.

Yes, brow lift surgery leaves scars. The endoscopic method uses five small incisions: one on each temple and three evenly distributed across the forehead. Brow lift scars are often small and inconspicuous.

The results of brow lift are long-lasting, but not permanent. You can expect to enjoy the results of your surgery for at least 10 years.

This is because plastic surgery cannot prevent future signs of ageing. Over time, the effects of gravity and ageing may eventually cause the eyebrows to droop again.
