Initial Consultation
Your initial consultation is the first step on your surgical journey. In this appointment, you and Dr Doyle will discuss your biggest facial ageing concerns. You will be shown one or more treatment options, including potential combination procedures. You will then receive a quote for your procedure and spend time with our patient coordinator to answer any questions that you may have.
Preparing For Surgery
Once you’ve secured your surgery date, Dr Doyle’s team will provide you with a range of pre-operative supplements. Taking these will ensure that your body is primed for surgery.
We recommend that you set up a comfortable recovery area in your home in the week leading up to your procedure. This should include pillows, ice packs and your choice of entertainment (ie. books, TV, Netflix etc). Please arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to the hospital. Furthermore, you should have someone to stay with you for 24 hours after your procedure.
Finally, you will be given specific instructions in the lead up to your procedure. This may include stopping any blood-thinning medication, stopping smoking and fasting in the hours leading up to your surgery. Follow these instructions carefully.
The Procedure
All facial surgeries are performed under general anaesthetic at John Flynn Private Hospital. The procedure will take a few hours and you can go home immediately after. Please arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home from the hospital.
Understanding the Risks
Pain, swelling, bruising and scarring around the incision site are all normal risks of plastic surgery. More serious complications include anaesthesia related risks, infection, or blood collection (haematoma) underneath the skin. All risks and complications will be explained to you in detail during your initial consultation with Dr Doyle.
Recovery After Surgery
After your procedure, you will need to rest. It’s recommended that you have someone with you for 24-48 hours after your procedure.
Expect to take 1-2 weeks off work and limit exercise for 4-6 weeks. You will be prescribed pain medication to manage discomfort after your procedure. This is a general guide and you will receive specific timelines during your initial consultation with Dr Doyle.
Finally, you will be provided with specific post-op instructions. These include avoiding driving for 48 hours after your anaesthetic, avoiding swimming and avoiding strenuous activity for 6 weeks. Please follow these instructions as closely as possible.
